Bachelor of Architecture

Course Structure:

The School offers B.Architecture (full time) 5-years, Degree programme in architecture. The curriculum is designed on the idea of learning through doing. Throughout the course, students work on design project, usually related to practical situations on live sites. As far as possible the academic input to the course is related to the programmes being carried out in the design studio. Student's progress is monitored through a combination of continuous assessment in design studios, written examinations, group discussions reviews, and juries for each field of study. The program includes relevant courses dealing with concepts, process technical details and design practice, as well as electives in an area of student's interest. The coursework is structured to help the student understand finer aspects of architecture which are very much integral to designing, planning and construction of buildings. It aims to impart quality education through effective communication skills, making the students conscious of built form in the contemporary Architectural scenario.

Admissions Procedure:

The students have to qualify in NATA (National Aptitude Test Architecture)/JEE (Mains) conducted by the COA/ CBSE. Merit list is prepared by giving 50% weightage to the qualifying exam and 50% to entrance test and state architecture rank is assigned.

Job opportunities:

In independent practice, an architect is expected to understand specific requirements of clients and strike the right balance between aesthetics and practicality. An architect with skills can help clients with his ideas in terms of balancing the requirements of appearance, financial budget and time frame. Some architects even work independently and earn their livelihood through consultancy fees which entirely depends upon their skill, profile as well as work experience.

B. Tech Planning

Planning has its roots in engineering, law, architecture, public health and the social sciences. Planners today combine design, analytical and communication skills to help communities manage change. In particular, technological advances in communications and computers are changing the shape and form of cities, and how planning for the future will take place.

Planners work in communities and contribute solutions to our pressing social, economic and environmental problems. They are in fact one of the key contributors to making urban and rural life workable, livable and prosperous. Planners work with communities to provide research, analysis and recommendations in urban/regional environmental. Experts in public participation processes and conflict resolution, planners help develop solutions that are practical and effective.

Planners link knowledge and action in ways that improve public and private development decisions, which effect people, places and environment. To do this, planners must have knowledge and experience in a wide range of topics.

The aim is to impart knowledge, skills and attitude needed to pursue a career in urban planning, research, policy-making and management. It is essentially multi-disciplinary in nature- the subjects related to Urban and Regional planning include Urban Economics, Sociology Legislation, Development Theories, Politics, Transportation, Services, Housing, Landscape, etc.

Course Structure:

The Curriculum is a full -time four years course and is divided into eight semesters. In the first seven semesters, the students have to devote full time to the study of different subjects while 8th semester consists of practical training along with a project work.

M.Tech. (Energy and Sustainable Built Environment)

Facilities &Services Planning is a professional engineering discipline that aims to create a safe and comfortable indoor environment while reducing a building's environmental effect.

Engineers in Facilities & Services Planning are in charge of the design, installation, operation, and monitoring of technical services in buildings (including Civil Engineering, mechanical, electrical, also known as MEP or HVAC), as well as fire safety and security, in order to ensure a safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly operation.

Bachelor of Design (Interior Design)

B. Design (ID)

The Bachelor of Design programme is a four year full time degree programme with specific focus on Interior design. A strong foundation of interdisciplinary skills are imparted to the students as a part of the programme, with strong emphasis on Design process, Design Thinking & methods, user and market understanding, space planning, construction and interior materials, and techniques and production & furniture material, manufacturing and techniques. With additional focus on crafts, life style accessory & product design. The program further offers an hands on photography, model making, textile design, furniture manufacturing, metal works, etc. through a variety of workshops, Field visits, Industry visits, seminars, group discusions and interactions etc. This over all curriculum is founded on the ground concerns of Vernacular Architecture and designs, Universal Design awareness, Environment, Eco friendly Architecture and Interiors, Furniture and product systems & spatial Ergonomics along with an understanding of human psychology & behavior in Interior built spaces.

The course includes a semester of full-time internship in an Interior Designer’s office and a Design Thesis.

The degree of B Design gives the students an opportunity for higher studies at the IIT for an M Design programme. Many universities in the UK, US, Australia, Italy etc. are offering masters programme for specialization in the field of design like furniture design, lighting design, acoustic design, textile design etc. where our students got admitted and passed out with flying colours.
